BROWNSBURG, Ind. — Police are investigating after a shooting in Brownsburg left one man dead Thursday night.

Officers were called to the 7000 block of Meadow Trail, near State Road 267 and East Tilden Road, around 6:30 p.m. on reports of shots fired.

Several neighbors told officers they heard three to five gunshots. When police arrived on scene, they say they found a male victim inside an apartment suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Police should be providing the identity of the deceased and the identity of the brother who lives with him sometime Friday.

Investigators say a maroon 2004 Toyota Camry was seen leaving the scene. The vehicle was last seen heading eastbound toward the Brownsburg Meadows retirement center. The victim’s brother is currently missing and that red Toyota belongs to him.

One neighbor, Heather Heckart, was outside when the shooting occurred. “I was in my backyard and I heard four really loud gunshots. I wasn’t really sure what it was at first, and then I saw a cop car across the street.”

“We’ve lived here my whole life. I’m 26 years old and nothing like this has happened, at least not that I’m aware of,” Heckart said.

Brownsburg police say they are investigating this shooting as a homicide.
