INDIANAPOLIS — Police said a gunshot victim died after being found by firefighters who were called to a house fire on the city’s northwest side.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, an adult male died after being transported from a home in the 5900 block of Guion Road on Tuesday morning.

Deputy Chief of Operations Aaron Bell of the Pike Township Fire Department said fire crews were originally called to the home on Guion Road at 9:45 a.m. on reports of smoke showing from the windows of the residence. When fire crews arrived on scene, firefighters found a working fire.

The home is reportedly a duplex, according to Bell.

IMPD said firefighters found the injured man inside the home and called IMPD to the scene shortly after 10 a.m. Officers noted that the man was suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

The man was transported by medics in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at a nearby hospital, police said.

No further people were found inside the duplex.
