INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A man was shot and killed on the near west side of Indianapolis just after midnight Sunday, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

At around 12:10 a.m., 911 operators received a call in reference to shots being fired near the intersection of Rockville Road and Holt Road.

Officers arrived to find a man suffering from multiple gun shot wounds.

Medics took the man to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

On Monday, the victim was identified as 42-year-old Steven Jamell.

Investigators have released few details and say they are checking nearby security cameras for leads.
