INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (October 26, 2015) — A “selfie” led police to two theft suspects in Harrison County.

Branden Fischbach and Jared Atkins were arrested Sunday. Fischerbach turned himself into police. Atkins was arrested without incident. Both were charged with theft after allegedly stealing a crossbow and digital camera from a hunters blind near Corydon on October 7, 2015.

The following night, the stolen items were dropped off at a local cemetery.  An Indiana Conservation Officer recovered the items, but all the images on the memory card had been erased.

Alan Steward, a photographer/staff writer with the Corydon Democrat newspaper, learned of the theft and helped the DNR recover the images on the memory card.  More than 760 images were recovered, including a “selfie” photograph of Atkin’s girlfriend dated 10/6/15.

This led to confessions from both Atkins and Fischbach about their involvement in the theft.
