NEW CASTLE, Ind. (October 16, 2015) – A New Castle man and woman were arrested after police say they abused two toddlers.
According to court documents, Brianne Poindexter, 23, dropped her three-year-old son and 18-month-old daughter off at a babysitter’s house. The babysitter discovered a significant amount of bruising on the children’s bodies, and she called police. Police called medics to the house, and they decided to transport the children to Henry County Hospital.
When police asked Poindexter about the bruising, she told them that her boyfriend’s children liked to fight with her children. She also said her boyfriend had been watching her children for the past week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. while she was at work.
Police then interviewed Poindexter’s boyfriend James Miller, 41. Miller told police that he noticed the children had some bruising, but he says his children did not cause it.
Police interviewed Poindexter’s three-year-old son. Police asked the child if anyone has ever hurt him. And he told them Miller, who he calls “daddy,” choked him and smacked him. He told police that Miller also did the same thing to his sister. Police asked the child where his mom was when that happened, and the boy did not know.
Police arrested Miller on two counts of battery and strangulation. They also arrested Poindexter on two counts of neglect of a dependent.
