INDIANAPOLIS — A man is dead following a shooting on the near west side of Indianapolis, according to local police.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of W. 10th Street and N. Rochester Avenue for a person shot.

Upon arrival at the intersection, which is on the city’s near west side, IMPD said officers found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. That victim, who police on the scene identified as an adult male, was pronounced dead shortly after.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Alton ray Kerney.

IMPD said detectives believe the suspect fled on foot after shooting the victim in the street.

IMPD Homicide Detectives responded to the scene and are working to learn more about what led up to the shooting. No witness information was immediately provided, although IMPD officials said that the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident.
