INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan police said a child was shot on the northeast side early Thursday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the 4200 block of Evanston Avenue just after 12:20 a.m. in response to a shots fired call.

When they arrived, they found a young victim suffering from gunshot wounds. IMPD said the individual was in stable condition.

Around 2 p.m. Thursday, IMPD Lt. Shane Foley said that the victim in the shooting was a 9-year-old. No further information on the victim was provided.

The shooting remains under investigation.
