FORTVILLE, Ind. — Police are searching for the suspect who shot a man Sunday afternoon in Fortville, Indiana.
The Fortville Police Department was dispatched Sunday afternoon to the 300 block of Park Creek Lane, a new street in Fortville, in reference to a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male with at least one gunshot wound to the face, police said.
The man was taken to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. He was initially in critical condition but police say he is improving and has been upgraded.
The exchange of gunfire happened in a neighborhood, steps away from the playground.
“We have children here, that could’ve easily been one of the children with the number of rounds that were fired,” said Tannika Patton, a homeowner.
There is currently no suspect information, FPD said, other than that the alleged shooter fled the scene in a vehicle. Police officers from McCordsville and Lawrence initially pursued the suspect vehicle, but later terminated the pursuit due to heavy traffic.
Police believe the victim and the suspect somehow knew one another. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage as they try to piece together exactly what happened.
“He’s a danger to society, if he’s going to going to come into a random neighborhood where he knows no one and he’s going to shoot up a house that he really doesn’t even know who it belongs to. That’s scary,” said Chief Patrick Bratton, with Fortville Police Department.
