INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – IMPD detectives have identified the man and woman shot and killed in a murder-suicide on the northeast side Friday.

Police believe Lamount Reynolds, 29, shot and killed Sheena Grundy, 31, before turning the gun on himself.

It happened at a home in the 3000 block of East 38th Street just after 8 p.m.

Police say family members went to the house to check on Grundy because she had not picked up her children from daycare, but then discovered her and Reynolds were dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Detectives say the two victims had been in a relationship for several years according to family members at the scene. They believe this was a domestic dispute gone bad.

Police say it’s likely the second murder-suicide of the day. The first happened on the west side Friday morning.

“We are devastated to hear of 2 separate domestic related murder/suicides in our city today,” said Kelly McBride Executive Director of the Domestic Violence Network.  “Domestic violence homicide is preventable, and as a community, we can work together to end the cycle of violence. If you or a loved one is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out to 211 to be connected with an advocate in your area who can assist with safety planning. If you are in immediate danger, please call 911. Everyone deserves to live in a safe home.”

“The toll of domestic violence affects all victims and their family regardless of race or socio-economic status,” said Chief Troy Riggs.  “The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is committed to working with our partners to educate domestic violence victims of the vast array of services available to them.  There is no longer a need to suffer in silence.”

The Marion County-Indianapolis Forensic Services Agency is processing evidence found at the scene. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
