INDIANAPOLIS — A burglary led to a chase that ended in a crash on the near west side early Tuesday morning, police say.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the sequence of events started with a reported burglary in the 2900 block of Kentucky Avenue around 4 a.m. A Southwest District officer on patrol noticed a suspicious vehicle nearby and approached it in his police car.

The car took off, however, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, the driver missed a slight turn, veered off the road and slammed head-on into a tree near the intersections of McCarty and Corrill streets.

An adult and a juvenile, including the driver, got out of the vehicle and took off; officers caught them with assistance from drones and K9 officers.

Two adult suspects, including the driver, got out of the vehicle and took off; officers caught them with assistance from drones and K9 officers.

A third person, a juvenile, was still inside the vehicle and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
