UPDATE (Dec. 6, 2019)– Police say Steven Groves was captured around 11:30 a.m. Friday in Indianapolis and is being taken back to jail.

GREENFIELD, Ind. — Authorities are searching for a handcuffed man last seen in the area of the Hancock County Jail.

The Greenfield Police Department (GPD) are searching for a man identified the man as Steven “Scottie” Groves.

Groves is described as 5’11” tall, weighing about 200 lbs, with blonde hair, blue eyes and is said to be wearing tan pants and a gray shirt.

Officials said Groves entered the work release program on November 11 and was being returned to the Hancock County Jail for a community corrections violation on December 4.

Authorities said as he was being walked into the building, he broke away from the Corrections Officer and fled on foot.

Groves is being charged with escape, and there is an active warrant for his arrest.

Police are actively searching for Groves at this time.

Officials note that nothing in his history indicates that he is particularly dangerous to the public.

His previous charges were dealing in a controlled substance.

Anyone with information on Groves or his whereabouts is urged to call 911 immediately.
