Indianapolis police investigate 4 shootings in less than an hour, 3 possibly connected

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 24, 2016) — It was a busy night for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.  IMPD confirms four people were shot in less than an hour.

Detectives are currently investigating 3 shootings that happened near each other on the east side. They believe at least two of them may be connected.

The first shooting happened in the 6000 block of Windsor Drive on the east side of Indianapolis around 11:30 Saturday night.  Just minutes later, a second person shot was reported in the 4000 block of North Grand Avenue, and a third person shot arrived at Community East Hospital.

A 19-year-old male was found in the 6000 block of Windsor Drive. Police say he was rushed to the hospital for surgery. He’s expected to survive his injuries.

A 35-year-old male victim was also located in the 4000 block of North Grand Avenue. He was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in good condition.

The third victim was a 34-year-old male who walked into Community East Hospital. Police say he was treated for a minor graze wound to the head.

Officers have interviewed all three victims. They all said they were shot somewhere between East 21st Street and North Arlington Avenue.

According to a news release, police believe all three victims were involved in the same incident. They say there’s a possibility all three exchanged gunfire with each other, but a motive is not known at this time.

This incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.

In a separate incident on the west side of Indianapolis, a fourth shooting occurred at the Mariner’s Village Apartments around 12:15 Sunday morning. IMPD says a 35-year-old woman was shot twice, once in the leg and once in the stomach. She was transported to the hospital. Her condition is unknown.
