Indiana State Police confirms 1 dead in plane crash in Monroe County

UPDATE: (12/23/21): The deceased has been identified as Adam Clark, 40, of Bloomington. The preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma. The official cause of death is pending on toxicology results.

UPDATE: (12/18/21): The FAA released the following statement to CBS4: A single-engine Piper PA-32 crashed south of Bloomington, Ind., around 8:10 p.m. local time Friday. The pilot was the only person on board. The plane was flying from Indianapolis Metro Airport to Monroe County Airport in Bloomington.

The FAA and NTSB will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide all updates. Neither agency identifies people involved in aircraft accidents.

After investigators verify the aircraft registration number at the scene, the FAA will release it on this webpage, usually on the next business day. You can look up the aircraft by its registration number on this webpage.

The Monroe County coroner tells us today that the identification of the victim will not be released until after they have DNA confirmation, which will likely be next week.

MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police assisted the Federal Aviation Administration in investigating a Friday night plane crash in Monroe County that claimed one life.

The crash took place south of the Monroe County Airport near Tower Road in Monroe County.

Around 8:15 p.m., 911 calls came in about a small plane crash. Troopers and first responders found a single-engine plane on fire.

Firefighters with the Van Buren Fire Department were able to extinguish the fire.

A preliminary investigation led to the discovery of one person inside the plane. They were pronounced dead on scene.

Authorities are withholding the identity until proper identification and notification of next of kin.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board were contacted and will take over the investigation once they arrive.
