INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indianapolis Metropolitan police are looking for a suspect after a Wednesday morning armed robbery involving an off-duty Marion County Sheriff’s deputy.

Police set up a perimeter in the area of PLS Check Cashing, located at 3800 E. Washington St. IMPD said they were investigating a robbery and an armed suspect was on the loose.

Officers at the scene said the victim, an off-duty deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, was robbed in the parking lot of the business. Detectives believe the suspect saw a gun in the side compartment of the deputy’s car and then demanded the weapon. The man was not hurt during the encounter, police said, and the thief got away with the deputy’s gun.

The deputy was in plainclothes and was in his personal vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. The firearm was his personal weapon.

Police dropped the perimeter around 6 a.m. and said efforts to find the suspect were unsuccessful despite the use of a K-9.
