INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a deadly crash involving a man found on Zionsville Road on the northwest side Wednesday morning.
Police were called to the intersection of Zionsville Road and Indian Cove Road for a person hit by a car around 5:10 a.m.
Officers said the man — identified on March 15 as 26-year-old Demarcus Williams — was already lying on the road when he was struck by a vehicle. Police revealed the vehicle’s driver was the one to call 911 and also stayed on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
According to police, the driver said they did not see the man until the last second due to the darkness outside at that time of day.
Police are also looking into a pair of broken windows at the nearby Indianapolis Public Library’s Pike branch and seeing whether the two incidents could be connected. A trail of blood was seen leading from the library to Zionsville Road near where the man was hit. Bloody footprints were also spotted on the sidewalk.
Our crews on scene said they saw firefighters use a hose to remove what appeared to be blood from the road and the library’s parking lot.
The coroner’s office will determine the cause of the man’s death.
