INDIANAPOLIS — One man is dead after being found shot to death in an alley on Indy’s near northwest side.

Officers responded around 7 a.m. to the 800 block of W. 25th Street behind a vacant home in an alley. They located an adult male unresponsive in a vehicle with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. IMPD said the man died on the scene.

Investigators revealed that a family member called police after finding the man. The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 27-year-old Davion Grundy.

Police are still investigating what led to the deadly shooting and officials said it is not clear how long the victim had been dead before being discovered.

After calling the police, a large group of friends and family gathered at the scene waiting for answers.

“Family members are here,” IMPD Ofc. Samone Burris said. “Our community has been impacted again by senseless violence.”

Unfortunately, so far police say there were no witnesses to the violence and the killing may have taken place several hours earlier into Sunday night.

“It’s a large time frame and we understand that,” Burris said. “But we’re trying to piece together what occurred.”

That homicide comes after 30-year-old Jose A. Hernandez Jr. was killed in a shooting that wounded a second man Saturday night on Maywood Road.

Police say everyone involved in that incident has been identified, but no one has been arrested.

FOX59/CBS4 also learned that 20-year-old Genesis Mixon died in a shooting that ended Friday afternoon with a car crash on Sherman Drive.

“We understand it’s frustrating and heartbreaking,” Burris said. “It should not be the norm and it’s not normal.”

With 166 total homicides so far this year, IMPD insists again they need the public’s help to hold the various killers accountable.

“Time and time again we say we can’t solve these cases without our community,” Burris said. “We can’t solve these cases without the community coming forward and sharing information to help detectives.  Without them, cases like this go unsolved, unfortunately.”

So far, no arrests have been made from any of the weekend homicides.
