IMPD adding 33 new officers Monday

Indianapolis, Ind. – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department continues to beef up its force. A new group of officers will officially join IMPD Monday afternoon.

The 13th IMPD Recruit Class will be sworn in by Mayor Joe Hogsett and IMPD Chief Troy Riggs at the City County Building at 1:30 p.m.

IMPD says the group of 33 men and women is an example of the department’s commitment to diversity, making sure IMPD is reflective of the community it serves.

The class includes three Latinos, nine African Americans and one Asian officer.

After the new officers are sworn in, Chief Riggs will host a ceremony for ten promotions and three new appointments.


  • Lieutenant Roger Spurgeon to East District Commander
  • Captain Richard Riddle to Major within the Chief’s Office
  • Lieutenant Kevin Wethington to Major within the Administration Division


Park Ranger to Park Ranger Sergeant:

  • John Burrello
  • Jerald Nuckols
  • Bent Kintner

Reserve Sergeant to Reserve Lieutenant:

  • James Dora Jr.
  • Kevin Bandy
  • Larry Walker Sr.

Reserve Patrol Officer to Reserve Sergeant:

  • Mark Mennonno Jr.
  • Alejandro Lastra
  • Joseph Ford
  • Paul Watkins

Chaplain Manager:

  • Patricia Holman

The public ceremony is at 2:15 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Public Assembly Room in the City County Building. This ceremony will start at the conclusion of the swearing-in for the 13th IMPD Recruit Class.
