FISHERS, Ind. – After the big announcement nearly a year ago, many central Indiana residents have been anxiously awaiting construction of the first IKEA in the state.
And we finally have an update to report! The retailer has officially hired contractors for the building. Pepper Construction will serve as the construction manager for the site work.
Pending remaining permits, the project is still on track for site work to commence, with the groundbreaking happening next month. The store is scheduled to open sometime in the fall of 2017.
“With contractors onboard, plans can proceed towards opening the future IKEA Fishers,” said Lars Petersson, IKEA U.S. president. “This store will provide a more convenient IKEA shopping experience for current and potential customers throughout Indiana, complementing our growing Midwestern U.S. presence.”
The future 289,000 square foot building will be built on 35 acres along the eastern side of Interstate 69, just south of the East 116th Street exit.
The store will hire 250 workers once it opens.
