FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. (January 9, 2016) – Three people were hospitalized following a head-on crash in Franklin County Friday.

At approximately 3:40 p.m., Indiana State Police was called to a head-on two vehicle crash on State Road 46 near Pocket Road, just west of Batesville.

According to the initial investigation, a red 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Chelsey Moore, 25, of Batesville, was traveling westbound on State Road 46 near Pocket Road. The investigation determined that Moore’s vehicle traveled left of center as Moore attempted to avoid a vehicle that was turning in front of her.  Moore’s vehicle then struck a gold 2006 Mercedes SUV driven by Jerry Welborn, 76, of West College Corner.

The near head-on collision caused both vehicles to leave the roadway with Welborn’s vehicle overturning and coming to rest on its top.  Welborn along with his wife Jane Welborn, 76, were both transported by EMS in serious condition to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville.  Moore was also transported to Margaret Mary Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. All injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
