INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A barrel containing chemicals caused a scene after some was spilled at a business on the near northeast side of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) hazmat crews responded to a chemical fire at Major Tool & Machine on 19th Street near Sheldon Street around 8 a.m.

A 55-gallon drum containing an epoxy called MagnaBond was sending vapor into the air. When crews arrived, the product was bubbling and meters indicated it was producing vapors containing hydrogen cyanide and chlorine gas.

Crews spend just over an hour cooling down the barrel and containing the water run-off with absorbents.

Six adults and two students from Zion Hill Baptist Church Child and Daycare were told to shelter in place for about an hour as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
