CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (July 14, 2015) — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a drowning that occurred Monday evening that may have been due to flash flooding of Fourteen Mile Creek.
Around 7:45 p.m., Indiana Conservation Officers were notified and responded to assist with a motor vehicle accident investigation that is still ongoing by the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation was initiated after a passerby noticed a vehicle in the creek and subsequently called authorities.
The victim, Edwin Flaherty, 67, of Charlestown, had apparently driven his vehicle into a flooded portion of Tunnel Mill Road near Charlestown and was swept into the channel by the swift floodwaters early Tuesday morning.
A cause of death has yet to be determined. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
