INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) are searching for a man that allegedly fired several shots at officers during an early morning chase.

IMPD said officers were patrolling the area around The Point bar near East 34th Street and North Arlington Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. Monday.

Officers were “handling some problems” in the area when one officer was nearly struck by a vehicle, according to IMPD.

The officers attempted to stop the female driver, but the vehicle fled the scene.

A chase ensued, with a male passenger in the vehicle firing shots at the pursuing officers.

The chase ended at a dead end on Gale Street, where the male in the pursued vehicle jumped out and escaped.

No officers were wounded by gunfire. A squad car was damaged by at least one bullet fired during the pursuit.

Police said the female driver was taken into custody.

Police set up a large perimeter and searched the area with drones and at least one K-9, looking for the escapee.

IMPD said at one point they thought they caught the suspect, but now say they are still searching.
