Fire destroys Carmel home overnight; family of 5 escapes

CARMEL, Ind. – Firefighters are investigating after a fire destroyed a Carmel home overnight.

Firefighters responded to a home in the Delaware Trace neighborhood off of Hazel Dell Parkway shortly before midnight after a fire was reported.

When they arrived, firefighters say they found a home with flames showing from the back of the house.

Officials say the family of five and their dog made it out of the house safely, and no injuries were reported.

The family told firefighters they were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and were able to get out before crews arrived.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but crews believe it started somewhere in the back of the house.
