Driver identified after fiery crash on I-65 in Boone County

UPDATE:

Boone County authorities have identified the man killed in a fiery crash Thursday night that closed I-65 near the Boone-Clinton County line.

The driver was identified as Jeffrey Warren Hamilton, 40, Greenwood. Police used dental records to confirm Hamilton’s identity.

The crash was reported around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, blocking the interstate in both directions. According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Hamilton’s 2000 Saab swerved off the highway, hit a guardrail and slammed into a bridge support. The car ended up in the southbound lanes before bursting into flames.

BOONE COUNTY, Ind.  (August 6, 2015) — Boone County Sheriff’s Department and fire crews are on the scene of a fatal crash along southbound I-65 just past the Clinton and Boone County line at mile marker 149.

The crash was first reported just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday night and has closed the interstate at that location. South bound traffic is being diverted off at State Road 28 in Clinton County. The left north bound lane is blocked approaching the rest area.
