INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Fire crews responded to a house fire Friday on the west side of Indianapolis.
The fire was reported around 10 a.m. in the 3200 block of Summerfield Drive.
Wayne Township Fire Department officials said a man and his four children were home at the time. The father was transported to Eskenazi Health with non-life threatening injuries. He reportedly suffered burns while attempting to drag a burning mattress from the home.
The children were not injured. A firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
Damage to the home is estimated at $50,000. WTFD officials said the fire was started by a 4-year-old with a lighter.
