JOHNSON COUNTY — A fatal crash in Johnson County occurred on I-65 SB and left all lanes closed, according to the Indiana State Police.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday, a car and a semi-truck were involved in a crash. In a press release sent at 9:14 p.m. Sunday, Indiana State Police indicated that the car was underneath the semi, heavily damaged and fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.
Firefighters and emergency medical personnel extinguished the fire and extracted the victim from the vehicle, which was later reported to be a Chevrolet Malibu, according to state police.
The victim of the crash has been identified as 23-year-old Destiny Lynn Johnson of Indianapolis. State police reported that she was pronounced dead at the scene.
All southbound lanes between mile markers 93 and 95 on Whiteland and Hurricane Road were restricted for more than four hours while the wreckage was removed, per state police.
ISP investigators believe Johnson drove off the right side of the road onto the shoulder and struck the rear end of a parked semi in doing so. At this time, officials do not know why Johnson veered off the road and onto the shoulder.
ISP is still investigating the accident. State police were assisted at the scene by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Coroner’s Office and the Franklin Fire Department.
