PLAINFIELD, Ind. — Firefighters suspect a fire that struck a family’s home was started by intense lightning that struck around midnight.

Homeowner Daniel Kinnemon went outside at that time to check any damage, but found nothing.  The family’s fire alarms sounded around 4:30 this morning.  The family of four made it out safe and called 911, though the family cats are still missing.

Severe lightning storms kept Plainfield fire crews busy through the night.  Officials say a half dozen fire alarms rang out overnight.  There was another fire at a local business, and two semis crashed on the interstate because of the weather.

Firefighters say if you believe your house may have been struck by lightning, call a crew to check it out.
