INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 31, 2015) – The National Weather Service confirmed Sunday morning that the damage on the southeast side of Indianapolis was produced by an EF-1 tornado. The winds reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.
The storm damaged several buildings and stacked two automobiles on top of each other.
According to the NWS, the tornado touched down for just about a minute, and it traveled about one third of a mile with a path 40 yards wide.
Streets were flooded, trees and power lines were down, and there was debris in the roadway.
There were no reports of injury.
Damage from high winds and tornados can bring in out of town contractors who are looking to make quick cash without doing the job correctly. The contractors go door to door asking to fix roofs and siding, when they are not certified to do the job.
Always ask your contractor for verification and identification. Before hiring a contractor, always ask for verification and identification. Homeowners can also contact the Better Business Bureau to check out the company.
Also, avoid paying up front. Instead, use a check or credit card to pay one-third at the start of the project, one-third when work is 50% completed and one-third after completion.
