Driver dies after car strikes utility poles on east side during late night crash

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 30, 2016) — One person died after a car crashed into two utility poles late Wednesday night.

Police were dispatched to 26th and North Sherman Drive on reports of a vehicle accident with entrapment. Police found a woman and a man inside the car; the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, identified as 22-year-old Devonte Conner, went to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Police said the preliminary investigation showed the driver lost control of her car and struck a utility pole in the 2500 block of N. Sherman Drive. The vehicle then struck a second utility pole.

Police were still investigating circumstances surrounding the crash. They said there were no obvious signs that alcohol was a contributing factor.
