CLOVERDALE, Ind.– Officials say two people were injured Friday in a dust explosion at a ethanol plant in Cloverdale.

The explosion occurred around 12:30 p.m. at POET Biorefining, located at 2265 E County Road 800 S #1 in Cloverdale, just north of the Cloverdale exit on I-70.

POET General Manager Jaime Hernandez said dust ignited at a grain-loading facility on the site. The fire was quickly extinguished and two people were taken to the hospital for treatment and were later released.

“Our immediate concern is for the well-being of those injured, and we pray for their quick recovery. Safety at all POET facilities is our top priority. We will examine these circumstances closely and work to prevent similar incidents in the future. We are thankful for the response from emergency services to deal with the situation and for our team members who quickly implemented POET’s emergency action plan,” said Hernandez.
