INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A dump truck driving with its bed up caused seven hours of traffic delays this morning after it hit an overhead electronic message board on I-70.

It happened around 4 a.m. on I-70 westbound between the Keystone and Emerson exits.

Debris was scattered across the road and pieces of the sign were dangling from the structure after the collision.

Indiana State Police say a truck driver had the bed fully extended when it hit the sign.

The roof of a semi traveling behind the dump truck was ripped off as well.

INDOT brought in two cranes to clear out the entire structure of the sign.

“Not sure how much one of these signs cost, but I’m sure it’s not something that’s gonna be cheap,” ISP Sgt. John Perrine said.

Police did not say if the driver of the truck was ticketed but did say it was driver error that caused the bed to lift up.

It’s unclear at this time whether the driver of the dump truck was ticketed.
