INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Crews with the Indianapolis Fire Department worked to contain a fire at a dry cleaning business on Indianapolis’ near northeast side Friday.

Firefighters were called to the scene of Brent’s Elite Cleaners located at 25th and Wheeler shortly before 11 a.m. When they arrived, heavy fire and smoke was going through the one-story brick building.

Fourteen IFD units were dispatched to the scene. Crews were able to contain the main blaze in less than 30 minutes. However, firefighters spent an hour inside the building putting out hot spots.

The owner, 74-year-old Willis Brent, was on the scene and told investigators he did not know what caused the fire. Brent has owned the business for 18 years.

Damage to the business is estimated at $600,000.
