Authorities identify drowning victim in Eagle Creek near Rick’s Boatyard

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Friday afternoon, authorities in Indianapolis are called to the scene of a possible drowning at Rick’s Boatyard Cafe near Eagle Creek.

At 4:43 p.m., authorities were dispatched to the 4000 block of Dandy Trail for a person in the water. Multiple witnesses saw a Hispanic male go under the surface of the water and not re-surface.

Divers with IFD were deployed and were able to recover the victim, identified as 34-year-old Miguel A. Perez-Murillo, in about 30 feet of water off a dock at Rick’s Boatyard Cafe near Eagle Creek.

Perez-Murillo was taken to IU Methodist Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to Indiana DNR, the male victim was pronounced dead at 5:53 p.m.

Authorities say the first diver was in the water for 19 minutes. They were relieved by a second diver and after 11 minutes into their search, the victim was located.

The investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy is scheduled Saturday morning to determine the cause of death.
