INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is investigating a deadly crash downtown.
Officers were called to the intersection of W. McCarty Street and S. West Street around 9:05 a.m. That’s just south of Lucas Oil Stadium.
Police said there were three cars involved in the crash.
Two cars were stopped at the southbound light on West Street at McCarty Street.
As the two cars began moving forward when the light turned green, they were struck from the rear by the third car.
The striking vehicle was occupied by a man who is now deceased. He has been identified as 55-year-old David Wittman.
According to IMPD, the other two vehicles each had one person in them––one of which was a woman who was taken to the hospital.
West Street was closed Wednesday morning between W. Norwood St. and McCarty St.
