Deadly shooting, person lying in road under investigation by IMPD

INDIANAPOLIS — Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) are investigating a deadly shooting in Castleton on Sunday.

Police were sent to 8700 Masters Road around 12:40 p.m. on a report of a person that exited a moving vehicle and was lying in the road.

Witnesses told IMPD they were unsure of the extent of the injuries and remained on scene until officers arrived. 

Minutes later, officers were dispatched on a report of a vehicle driven into a building on the 8400 block of Craig St. with an injured person inside. 

Officers arrived and located an unconscious adult female in the vehicle who appeared to be suffering gunshot wounds. 

Emergency teams arrived and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

On Monday, the victim was identified as 21-year-old Meghan Schwab.

The person at 8700 Masters Road was treated for minor injuries by IEMS medics.
