INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 26, 2015) – Two people were shot in two separate incidents on the north west side of Indianapolis Tuesday morning.

The first shooting occurred around 9:25 a.m. in the Barington Apartments, in the 4600 block of Edwardian Circle. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, two suspects entered an apartment in an attempted home invasion.

“Does not appear to be forced entry,” said IMPD Sgt. Kendale Adams.  “There was some knock at the door.  So there may be some belief that the occupants may have known the suspects or had some relation to the suspects.”

A resident of the apartment encountered the suspects, and at least one of the suspects fired at the man. The victim returned fire and hit at least one of the suspects.  Police believe they found that suspect when was later dropped off at Eskenazi Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chin.  He was listed in serious but stable condition.

Police don’t know if the second suspect was hit by gunfire.  His whereabouts were unknown as of Tuesday evening.

Barrington Apartments resident, Sparkle Boyd, says she heard the gunshots but thought she was hearing contractors doing renovation work on the apartment building.  She also says she saw the two suspects running from the building.

“I was about to walk the dog and then I seen them go past,” Boyd said.  “And the air conditioner guy that was fixing the air conditioner said they had a gun!  And I’m like ahh!”

In a separate incident at 9:35 a.m. a man was walking to his car in the 2000 block of West 65th Street when he says an armed suspect tried to rob him. The suspect shot the man in the back. The victim was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

The suspect is armed with a handgun and on the loose. He is described as a black male between 5’8″ and 5”10″ tall.

The two incidents were about ten minutes and five miles apart.  Detectives were investigating the possibility that the two were connected, although they had not announced any connection Tuesday.  They were working to verify the victim’s claims about the armed robber in his driveway.

“A lot of these cases are not random,” Adams said.  “A lot of these cases are associates that know each other, or have an ongoing disturbance.”

If you have any information about either of these incidents, please call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.

The latest shootings add to Monday's violence. This makes a total of eight people have been shot since 5 p.m. yesterday.
