Police arrest home invasion suspect shot by woman after climbing through her baby’s window

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 30, 2016) – Police have arrested a man who they say was shot by a mother while attempting to break into her home through her baby’s window.

William Barnes, 38, has been charged by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to police, officers received the home invasion call around 12:10 p.m. from the home in the 3200 block of West Banta Road.

When police arrived, they say they found Barnes had been shot several times.

Family members of the woman say she heard a commotion, grabbed her pistol and exchanged gunfire with the burglar.

Police say Barnes was taken to Eskenazi Hospital, where he is still in custody. He’s charged with burglary with a deadly weapon, taking property by force or threatening the use of force while armed, battery by means of a deadly weapon and carrying a handgun without a license.
