MUNCIE, Ind. (Sept. 23, 2015)– A Muncie man is in jail after allegedly beating and drowning his 8-month-old puppy for wetting on his bed.

Jacob Joe “Jackie” Rodgers, 26, of West Bethel Avenue, was arrested late Tuesday afternoon after his roommates came to City Hall to inform police what they had witnessed. They told police that Rodgers became extremely angry after his puppy had wet Rodgers’ bed. Rodgers told his roommates that he was going to kill his dog for those actions. The roommates tried to intervene, but Rodgers had locked them out.

When he was questioned by police he admitted that he had struck the dog several times but couldn’t remember what else he had done. The roommates stated they heard Rodgers hitting the puppy but then saw him trying to resuscitate the puppy, named Cody, after it had been put underwater in a bath tub.

The puppy was taken to the Muncie Animal Shelter, where an investigation into cause of death found the four-pound puppy died of a lacerated liver and internal bleeding.

Rodgers was arrested and taken to the Delaware County Jail under a $5,000 bond.
