INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indiana State Police (ISP) are investigating the shooting of a driver on the southeast side of Interstate I-465.
According to police, the shooting happened Saturday evening on I-465 southbound near I-74, with police police responding around 7:41 p.m.
Officers arrived and found a man with a gunshot wound to the face and administered first aid until EMS arrived.
Police say the man was driving a white 2005 Chrysler, and was fired upon by a shooter from another vehicle described a red or maroon four-door passenger car, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu, Chrysler 300 or similar style car.
The suspect shot at least one time, and a bullet struck the driver of the Chrysler in the face, police said.
The suspect then fled the scene.
The man was transported to an area hospital where police say he is in stable condition and is expected to recover.
According to police, there were two other people in the car that were uninjured.
One lane of traffic was closed while police investigated.
ISP said the investigation is ongoing and detectives are interviewing witnesses and following leads.
The motive of this crime is unknown, but ISP does not believe the shooting to be random.
