COLUMBUS, Ind. (Sept. 23, 2015) – A Washington State man who was intoxicated tried to bite and kick officers who stopped him after he skipped out on his bar tab, police say.
Around 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, Columbus police officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 4th Street, where a man was accused of leaving a downtown bar without paying his bill.
Police tracked the man’s truck to Central Avenue and noticed the vehicle struck a curb and sideswiped a street sign near 7th Street. Police stopped the driver and identified him as Justin C. Eddelman, a 27-year-old Washington State resident.
Investigators noticed signs of intoxication from Eddelman, including poor balance, limited dexterity and the strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Police said he wouldn’t follow their orders and also acted aggressively toward them.
Officers took Eddelman to the ground and handcuffed him during a scuffle in which he tried to bite and kick them, police said. He refused a blood test at Columbus Regional Hospital; police then obtained a search warrant for a blood draw.
Police took Eddelman from the hospital to the Bartholomew County Jail, where he was booked on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.
