UPDATE (April 27, 2016)– The case against Rodney Flanagan was dismissed due to evidentiary problems, according to the Marion County Prosecutor’s office.
LAWRENCE, Ind. (February 10, 2016) – A suspect wanted on an attempted murder warrant has been arrested following a SWAT situation in Lawrence.
Rodney Flanagan, 31, was wanted on a warrant out of Marion County for attempted murder, criminal confinement with a deadly weapon and battery with a deadly weapon following an incident on Jan. 1, 2016, on the west side of Indianapolis.
According to Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff of the Lawrence Police Department, police received a tip that Flanagan was at a residence in the 7600 block of of E. 49th Street. Officers arrived at the address around 6:30 a.m. and tried to make contact with Flanagan. However, he grabbed an item from the living room that officers thought may have been a rifle.
Police called in the SWAT unit. SWAT made contact with Flanagan, who exited the home without incident. Police said Flanagan didn’t have a rifle; the object turned out to be a long piece of wood from a bunk bed that police said was similar in appearance to a baseball bat.
Flanagan was taken to the Arrestee Processing Center on his outstanding warrant.
