UPDATE (September 16, 2019): The West Lafayette Police Department (WLPD) have arrested a 15-year-old male juvenile in connection with the early morning Sunday shooting near the Purdue University campus.
According to WLPD, he has been booked into the Tippecanoe County Juvenile Detention Center and faces preliminary charges including two counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon.
West Lafayette police have also released the identities of the two gunshot wound victims: Treveontae Boyd, 18, and Yeriyah Taylor, 20.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Two men were shot near Purdue University early Sunday morning.
The West Lafayette Police Department says that it’s investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 3 a.m. in the 100 block of South Salisbury Street.
Investigators say two men were shot at an apartment complex just east of Purdue’s campus.
Responding officers located one victim who was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The man was awake and breathing and is expected to survive his injuries.
The second victim was driven to a nearby hospital by a friend. Police say that man suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Neither victim is currently a student at Purdue University.
Police say they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no active threat to students.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
