Man shot, killed on I-465 in Indy; police put out suspect, vehicle description

INDIANAPOLIS — A man was shot and killed in what police believe was a road rage incident on I-465 on the south side of Indianapolis, according to Indiana State Police.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Monday, police were called to the 5.2 mile marker, just west of the State Road 37 exit.

The victim — identified as 29-year-old Aaron Padgett of Evans, Georgia — was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

State police say the suspect — who was the only one in the vehicle — pulled up beside Padgett’s white van in a newer model black Chevrolet Impala or Malibu and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The suspect is described as a “light skin Black male, with tight dreadlocks that stopped above his shoulders and a skinny build,” according to ISP.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or was in the area with a dash camera is asked to contact state police at 317-899-8577 or CrimeStoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).

This is the second interstate shooting in the Indianapolis area in two days, but police say these incidents are not believed to be related.

(NOTE: Authorities originally stated that Aaron Padgett was from Columbia, Georgia. They have since provided a correction saying he is from Evans, Georgia.)
