INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Violence erupted inside a car on the far east side of Indianapolis Tuesday morning. One man is dead after a shootout inside a moving vehicle, and another man was seriously injured.

The shootout occurred near E. 10th St. and Washington Pointe Dr. near Washington Square Mall around 1 a.m.

Investigators say two people were inside the same car at the time of the shooting. The passenger was shot multiple times and jumped out of the moving vehicle. He was sitting and waiting for police when they got to the scene. He was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

The driver was killed. His car continued moving after he died, and it crashed into a building and then a tree. His identity is unknown at this time.

“We do believe that we have all of the parties involved, we just don’t have all of the answers, and why there was a gun battle inside a vehicle that was traveling south on Washington Pointe,” Capt. Harold S. Turner said.

The men are believed to be in their late teens or early 20’s.

It is unclear at this time what prompted the shooting. If you have any information, police ask that you call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
