INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A 5-month-old baby boy died from severe head trauma after police say the child’s dad, 26-year-old Steven Filley, abused him until he was unresponsive inside of his Crawfordsville home.
“How could anybody do that to such an innocent child? What would consume somebody to do that?” said the child’s mother, Heather Guillon.
Filley now faces charges of aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent, after his baby was rushed to the hospital with severe head trauma. In a police report, Filley told officers he dropped Connor when he was running to call for help. Later on he admitted to police that he abused the child until he went limp.
To hear what happened from Connor’s grandmother is chilling.
“He just continually kept getting frustrated because the baby would not calm down. So he smacked the baby across the face with his left hand. The baby still would not quit crying. At that point, he picked the baby up and slammed him against the wall,” said Danielle Jones.
The family claims this is not the first time that Connor was injured while he was under the care of his dad. Police reports show Connor already had bruises, a broken collarbone and five broken ribs in the last few months.
“If I knew any of this was happening, I would not have allowed my child around him,” said Guillion.
As the family grieves the loss of their 5-month-old baby, they are asking the public for help to pay for Connor’s funeral. If you would like to donate, you can send the money to Servies and Morgan Funeral Home, 102 North Washington Street, Roachdale, Indiana, 46172.
