BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Dec. 4, 2015)– The Monroe County coroner officially ruled the death of an Indiana University student a suicide.
Joseph Smedley was reported missing by his family Monday, September 28 after they say he sent them a note to tell them he was leaving the country. On Friday, October 2, Indiana Conservation Officers found Smedley’s body in Griffy Lake, just a few miles from the IU campus.
Coroner Nicole Meyer confirmed Friday that Smedley’s death was ruled suicide by drowning.
