INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Police are investigating a fatal crash on the city’s northwest side.
Just after 11:30 a.m. Thursday, police were called to West 38th Street and Cold Spring Road on a report of an accident involving a car and a bicycle.
Indianapolis police confirmed a male bicyclist died as a result of the crash. The driver stayed on the scene.
The rider was going with the flow of traffic, obeying traffic laws and was wearing a helmet. His bike was also outfitted with lights.
“Several witness called 911, and they stayed on-scene to give statements and the driver stayed on scene as well,” said IMPD Sgt. Jeff Parmelee. “It’s the right thing to do and it shows that it probably was just a horrific accident.”
Parmelee urged drivers to stay aware of their surroundings while driving.
“There’s more bicyclists on the road so people need to just pay attention and be more aware of their surroundings and actually drive when they’re driving and not doing whatever else their doing in the car,” he said. “You’ve got to drive.”
