INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says it’s investigating the death of a 1-year-old girl left in a car on the city’s east side Saturday.

Around 4:45 p.m., police and medics were called to an auto parts store in the 3800 block of East Washington Street.

Police say the baby, identified as Maria Guadalupe Sanchez, was in the car with her mother while another person went inside the store.

The baby was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children but unfortunately died, according to officials.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office says the cause of the baby’s death is pending and results are expected in about 8 weeks.

CBS4 Weather Authority confirms the air temperature in Indianapolis at the time was 84 degrees.
