ANDERSON, Ind.– Police say a pregnant woman is brain dead after being shot early Friday morning in Anderson.

Anderson Police Department Chief Tony Watters said Alexis Wasson, 29, was shot and taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson. The shooting happened around 3 a.m. in the 4200 block of Melon Drive.

Wasson was later airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis. Watters confirmed the victim is brain dead and pregnant, but did not know how far along the pregnancy is.

The suspect, Skye’lar White, was arrested in Anderson Friday evening on an attempted murder charge.

“It’s heart wrenching. I mean not only the loss or possibility of loss of a human life, but there’s an unborn life there– and that’s really difficult. I mean it’s difficult as a man, as a policeman as a chief as individuals period,” said Watters.

The victim also has a 5-year-old child.
