ANDERSON, Ind. — A woman is dead after a shooting Sunday in Anderson, according to authorities.

Shortly before 1 p.m., police responded to a shots fired call in the 1500 block of Walton Street. When officers arrived, they found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds.

She was transported to a nearby hospital but died of her injuries.

On Monday, she was identified as 33-year-old Sharmice Boyd. Police say Boyd’s three children were in the home when the shooting happened.

A suspect, 29-year-old Dmicah Beard, was identified and arrested in the 1800 block of Nichol Ave. Investigators believe Beard confronted Boyd at her residence while trying to locate a family member.

According to court documents, Beard went to the home looking for his nephew. When he asked Boyd about it, she smiled and said she didn’t know where he was. Beard told detectives, “that her smiling made him upset therefore he pulled out his pistol and shot the lady.”

“I’ve been doing this job for a really long time, and I’ve not really seen anything like that. There are random killings for no reason, that happens, but what because you don’t like the way someone looked at you? I don’t even know what to say about that,” said Rodney Cummings, Madison County prosecutor.

Beard was booked into the Madison County Detention Center for homicide and two counts of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. Investigators are not calling this a domestic situation but said Beard and Boyd did know one another.

Boyd’s family didn’t want to talk on camera but told our crews she was loved and had a heart of gold.

Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to call Anderson police at 765-610-9219.
